Please join us for drinks to celebrate the Delirium & Destiny finissage with ‘Doppelgänging’, a special performance by Basma Alsharif.
‘Doppelgänging’ (2014) is an invitation to an experiment in voluntary collective memory. The performance proposes to weave together the Occupation of Palestine, narrative cinema, and the possibility for Utopia. It is a story told in a cinematic space incorporating elements of the video work Deep Sleep (2014) by Basma Alsharif, exhibited in Delirium & Destiny.
About the artist
Basma Alsharif (1983, Kuwait) is an artist/filmmaker born to Palestinian parents, raised between France and United States of America Alsharif’s work centres on the human condition about shifting geopolitical landscapes and natural environments. Interested in what cannot ever be proven or explained, she uses photography, video, sound, language, and performance to reveal the fallibility of history and of perception. Engaging with politics on a visceral level through pieces characterised by their immersive, lyrical qualities, Alsharif creates familiar environments that lure the audience into unsettling experiences of being simultaneously comfortable and foreign. Alsharif has shown all over the world, and since the beginning of 2017 she has shown at the 70th Locarno Film Festival; MOCA Los Angeles; and Malmö Konsthall. She lives and works in Los Angeles, United States of America.
